Not nearly the coolest guy in Australia, but he is probably in the top 1000 in Melbourne. The real Craig Foster, to be clear I am not talking about the soccer toting, SBS commentating, grey hair wearing cowboy that moves his mouth and noise comes out guy on television. That guy is a complete impostor!

No, the Craig Foster we are referring to is tall, blonde, bespectacled and you will get lost in his eyes blue like swimming pools. You know what I mean. Do I really need to explain? Everyone knows the real Craig Foster.

For any fans of the solar system and astronomy check out Nine Planets (a reference to the planets in our solar system). It has been an authority site on space for years. Now that the IAU has deemed Pluto to not be a planet, the 9 has become redundant. Instead of changing their domain name, and losing all those links, their new logo banner has simply had the Nine crudely crossed out and replaced it with an 8. Hilarious.

Why do Google give a first page result for Wikipedia's page on cool? Not because a person at google decides what's best for each word searched for each page, rather because their algorithm is designed to automatically make the "authority" of any given subject top results.
Google's algorithm consists of 300 factors to determine who an authority is on a given search term.

With enough time and skill (and money?), anyone can get in Google's first page, perhaps even first result of a search for any term.
It is not as easy as it once was. Google has changed their algorithm making it much more difficult to influence results, fortunately for legitimate sites.
The amount of information out there is staggering.

Well well well, the coolest guy in Australia finally started a blog.
Welcome all to my blog. This is not your ordinary boring "what i had for breakfast" blog. No, this blog is dedicated mostly just to prove that I am the #1 in australia, at least according to search engines.
Also, anyone who visits this page must also be pretty cool....just, dont plan on being the arbitrary value, as that position belongs to me, Marcus, at least in Australia.

It helps if you have spent endless hours studying how to get results, and understand the hundreds of factors google uses, like I have. Suprisingly the content of your website makes up very little % of the factors to earn google search results. Instead of a blog about the specialest guy in australia, the phrase could point to a completely non-related business website, with no mention of how sorted they are, and it could still rank for the phrase, as in the "failure" example.

Finally putting my computer science degree to good use (that is questionable). We'll see how this little project turns out over the coming days and weeks, as it is suspected by search experts, that google has a time filter, to stop brand new sites (6 - 12 months old) getting anywhere near the first page of results.
Let's see if this freezes me in my tracks.

I'll keep in touch with the progress, but in the mean time I may need to chill out a bit. Ok, enough cold puns.

google problem solving planets

Scouring the planet for a solution, it seems a previous post that has only been cached once, may be the cause of the title problems. I will nut this out yet

google cached old title

After changing the page title google reverted back to an older cached title. Even though the page has been cached several times since since the original title was changed, the homepage SERP title does not change, even though the cached version of the data does, although if you search for the a different keyword or phrase, such as coolest guy on the planet, it does show up with the new title.
The usual common advice of using the noodp meta tag is not relevant as this webpage is not listed in DMOZ.

The only explanation I have is that as Google uses multiple data servers, 2 different titles are cached in two different data centers.

It should take a few days to sync the servers.

I am always intrigued by the Australian of the year awards. Paul Hogan once won, as in Crocodile Dundee, in 1985, for "his work in promoting Australia worldwide".

Now after all the surgery and terrible movies (I wish I had 4 hands, so I could give his movies 4 thumbs down), times have changed. In Australian media, he was reported as a tax evader, apparently refusing to pay over 300 million dollars worth of tax. That means he must have made at least over $600 million. That figure doesnt seem correct? That's bloody rich (if true, it seems a bit greedy to not pay tax on that amount). In a recent interview when asked if the Australian Taxation Office would file an arrest for him, in true Australian spirit he replied, "Come and get me, you bastards."
